REMEMBERING SUSAN MONROE

Linda Susan Kilgore Monroe, was born on January 25, 1949 in Kingsport, TN, and went to her heavenly home on June 19, 2010. Susan was the daughter of Henry and Marjorie Kilgore. Susan graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, TN, later received her Bachelor's degree from East Tennessee State University and her Master's degree from George Washington University. Susan was a cheerleader at Dobyns-Bennett and ETSU and an active member of her sorority, Kappa Delta. In 1969, Susan was named Miss ETSU and Miss Tenneva, and then in 1970 was named Miss Kingsport and won the talent competition in the Miss Tennessee pageant sharing her passion and gift of singing. Susan was the beloved wife for 36 years of John Monroe, and the loving mother of Sarah and Miles Monroe. We feel deeply blessed to have had Susan as a wife and mother and cherish the memories we have of her.

Susan was also a dedicated and loved member of the Royster Memorial Presbyterian church family where her husband John is pastor. During her years there, she shared her gifts in the youth ministry program, as a Sunday school teacher, and in the fellowship ministries. Royster is a stronger church because of Susan's presence and participation.

Susan was also a gifted and dedicated teacher throughout her life, most recently at Greenbrier Primary School for the last 14 years. Because of her love for her work and her children, she was awarded Teacher of the Year at Greenbrier Primary School in 1996. Also left to cherish her memory are her brother Steven Kilgore and his wife Martha, her brother Richard Kilgore and his wife Misti, her brother Gary Kilgore and his wife Reba, and her nieces and nephews Nick, Kristi, Emily, Matthew, Sarah Rebecca and Chad.

Family visitation will take place June 23, 2010, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Royster church. On Thursday at 2 p.m. a memorial service will be held in Susan's honor at Royster church followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church.

John, Sarah, and Miles would like to share with their friends a news piece that was done about a memorial service that was held on Sunday, in honor of Susan, at her school in Chesapeake.  Please follow the link that is attached to view the video.
